MODA clinics

Picture
We use money raised through membership fees and shows and sponsors to bring in clinicians. Through our annual Clinic and Community Surveys we learned what our members, and the central Ohio dressage community at large, want to learn and who from.
Join MODA to receive early notices and discounted clinic rates.
Check back often as we details are added!

About the clinician:
Sue Hughes is a Level III Centered Riding instructor.
Centered Riding Lessons and Clinics are taught by Certified Centered Riding Instructors and Clinicians with the following goals:
  • Application of classical principles of riding and training using body awareness, centering and imagery.
  • Encompassing all horsemanship disciplines, interests, seats and styles of riding and levels.
  • Communicating more clearly between horse, rider and instructor.
  • Improving confidence, comfort, good use of the body and quality of movement in both horse and rider.
  • Helping riders achieve their personal best, in harmony with their horses.

Sue Hughes' long history in the dressage community began in 1968, at age 39, when she volunteered as a troop leader in her daughter's Girl Scouts Riding Camp. Sue committed to volunteering to the troop if someone would teach her how to ride, thus starting what would be a lengthy career, dedicated to promoting the sport of dressage in the United States. After furthering her skills through seven years of lessons with Violet Hopkins, Sue was inspired to join the Midwest Dressage Association (MDA), where she ultimately served on the MDA board for fourteen years, four of those years as president. During this time Sue volunteered on the Violet Hopkins/USDF Instructors Seminar Planning Committee, went on to become a USEF "r" judge, and received the 2007 Jean Brown Memorial Award from MDA, in recognition of her commitment to making a difference in the local dressage community. Sue was ultimately inducted as a lifetime member of the Midwest Dressage Association by a unanimous vote in celebration of her tireless service.

MODA proudly hosted a Zoom webinar attended by nearly 30 participants from various parts of the country. Helen Pianca did an amazing job of reviewing the new rules and handling questions about "what to wear" this year!

Spring Ride-A-Test with Danielle Menteer

Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at Masterfare Equestrian Center
PicturePC Phyllis Stevens
Three juniors and five adults participated in the Ride-A-Test clinic.  The juniors earned schooling show scores that helped them for the Ohio State Fair. Drizzly rain in the morning did not hamper Danielle’s pace in judging/coaching the participants. The afternoon cleared and a scratch allowed for a more relaxed pace in the afternoon.
