In April of 1976, the inaugural organizational meeting laid the foundation for the Mid-Ohio Dressage Association (MODA). Two months later, on June 8, 1976, MODA was officially incorporated. In its inaugural year, MODA embarked on a journey of education and outreach, offering three enlightening programs. These included a one-day clinic with Hans von Bredow, a two-day clinic with Debbie Johnson from Potomac, Maryland, and a dressage forum focusing on test riding, judging, and scoring, led by Peter Nelson.
During this formative period, the demand for dressage instruction was high, despite the scarcity of dedicated "dressage" instructors. Nevertheless, the clinics drew significant interest, with 30 to 35 enthusiastic observers in attendance. In September of that year, dressage classes were introduced at Stillwater Farm during their Fall Show. This invaluable opportunity allowed MODA to gain valuable experience in organizing and presenting shows while also spreading awareness of dressage to a wider audience of Ohio riders. The following year marked a significant milestone for MODA as it hosted its inaugural Recognized Show. By 1978, the efforts of Laura Crawford, Sandra Burnard, Hans D. Von Bredow, and Nancy Wentz led to the official registration of Mid-Ohio Dressage Association as a USDF club. Building on this momentum, MODA launched the Classic the following year, cementing its commitment to promoting and advancing the sport of dressage in the region.
